John 17:1-26 The Prayer of Jesus (NJB)

After saying this, Jesus raised his eyes to heaven and said:

Father, the hour has come: glorify your Son so that your Son may glorify you; so that, just as you have given him power over all humanity; he may give eternal life to all those you have entrusted to him.

And eternal life is this: to know you, the one true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. I have glorified you on earth by finishing the work that you gave me to do. Now, Father, glorify me with that glory I had with you before the world ever existed. I have revealed your name to those whom you took from the world to give me. They were yours and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word. Now at last they have recognised that all you have given me comes from you for I have given them the teaching you gave to me, and they have indeed accepted it and know for certain that I came from you, and have believed that it was you who sent me. It is for them that I pray. I am not praying for the world but for those you have given me, because they belong to you. All I have is yours and all you have is mine, and in them I am glorified. I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep those you have given me true to your name, so that they may be one like us. While I was with them, I kept those you had given me true to your name. I have watched over them and not one is lost except one who was destined to be lost, and this was to fulfill the scriptures. But now I am coming to you and I say these things in the world to share my joy with them to the full. I passed your word on to the, and the world hated them, because they belong to the world no more than I belong to the world. I am not asking you to remove them from the world, but to protect them from the Evil One. they do not belong to the world any more than I belong to the world. Consecrate them in the truth; your word is the truth. As you sent me into the world, and for their sake I consecrate myself so that they too may be consecrated in truth. I pray not only for these but also for those who through their teaching will come to believe in me. May they all be one, just as, Father, you are in me and I am in you, so that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe it was you who sent me. I have given them the glory you gave to me, that they may be one as we are one. With me in them and you in me, may they be so perfected in unity that the world will recognise that it was you who sent me and that you have loved them as you have loved me.

Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, so that they may always see my glory which you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world. Father, Upright One, the world has not known you, but I have known you, and these have known that you have sent me. I have made your name known to them and will continue to make it known, so that the love with which you loved me may be in them, and so that I may be in them.

safe driving

I finally understand that safe driving, means keeping plenty of space

between the car in front of you and my car. So that I have space to maneuver and

brake in any situation while I am driving. I used to think driving fast was acceptable

but now getting myself and my passengers home or to our destination has

become the priority over speed. I also enjoy having the windows down and the breeze

blowing through my hair and face. So that it feels like running, or bicycling

while I drive at any pace. Also it lets me smell my surroundings while I drive, and

hear the music of the world. I still vividly remember smelling strawberries when I used

to bicycle to school every morning in San Dimas. Sadly most of those strawberry farms

on arrow highway are gone now.

My heart is open to you:

You are my friend at all times

you may not like all of my choices

but you respect my decisions

and you help me to deal with the results.

You are my brother and my friend

and you call me a Christian. For at my best I

have lived as the carpenter’s son lived, and

at my worst I have gone to the Father to seek

contrition and redemption. I have made many

poor and awful choices and still the Father

welcomes me in his arms when my own parents

would struggle with how to deal with me.

In fact I often go first to Mama Mary and Father God in Heaven

before I turn to my own family with the injuries

in my heart. I ask them for guidance and I then

go to my family, my parents, and priests and friends

I ask you to walk with me again. So that when you call

me to walk on water, I close my eyes and sprint

across the ocean into your arms. So that we can

walk on water together, and dance there arm in arm

until God needs me back on earth with my eyes open

and my heart open to be his physical hands and feet

on earth. I pray that I am able to say and do everything

that needs to be done before I leave earth. Let me never

be satisfied with a partial prayer. I pray for victory,

redemption, and that Fiat be done for all people.

There is still so much work to do, our governments have been

failing badly lately, our families are being challenged

and redefined so they can be destroyed. The world wants

to remove the meaning behind our words, our language, and

our names so that we forget who we are and where we come

from. I say that man and woman are very good. And the unique names

we all have are necessary, and that all sacraments are blessed.

When the world is so happy to remove God from schools, families,

governments, politics, conversations, from definitions, from science, from

stories. The world needs God more and more, and we should see that

all of this separation has only hurt the world and only by putting more faith

and religion back into the daily conversation can we have love and truth

and lives that are meaningful and good again. The evil spirit of the world

wants chaos and for nobody to care about the consequences: an absence of

accountability for that is the exact opposite of love and responsibility that leads people to heaven.

In the quiet, in the stillness

I know that you are God…

In the quiet, in the stillness

I listen to the Lord, and pray

That he walks with you each day

And never leaves your side

You are my family and friends

my neighbors and people that

I may meet in the future. I love

that the voice of heaven touches us

each day, and reminds us to pray

not to be distraught, but to gather

and be calm in the face of disarray.

I am troubled for a moment, then

before I go to bed, I trust it all to

Yahweh the creator of heaven and earth.

Its just you and me here now,

Its just you and me here now and only

you can keep us safe and protect all vows.
